My name is Justin Fournier, and I was born on March 31, 2005.

My Childhood
My Beginnings

From an early age, I always loved having fun and being active. I started by playing soccer in a club and hockey at the village ice rink. My strong desire to win my school’s annual race pushed me to join an athletics group looking for a team member for an upcoming competition. From my very first steps in the sport, it was love at first sight. I quickly became passionate about multiple disciplines.

UBS Kids Cup Victory

In the summer of 2015, I won the Swiss UBS Kids Cup in my age category. At that moment, one thing was clear: this is what I wanted to do with my life. But I wasn’t prepared for everything that would follow.

2015-2020
Multiple Disciplines

In my early years, I was particularly drawn to sprinting, where I earned several national distinctions, as well as long jump, where I won the Swiss U16 championship title in 2020.

The Turning Point

Since 2021, I have dedicated myself exclusively to pole vaulting. I train every week with the goal of always jumping higher.

The summer of 2021 marked a turning point in my career: At just 16 years old, I qualified for the U20 European Championships in Tallinn, Estonia. I finished 14th, just two places away from the final, achieving a jump over five meters for the third time that season.

School & Sport
End of Junior Years

In 2024, I obtained my high school diploma, won the Junior Gala in Mannheim once again, and finished 17th at the Junior World Championships despite a heel fracture two months before the competition. Thus, my junior years in athletics come to an end.

Travel & Elite Sports Training
From Tokyo to Magglingen

I then spent a month training in Tokyo, Japan, before starting my elite sports training in Magglingen. In this new environment, I rediscovered my discipline with fresh eyes and fully regained my passion for the sport.

Meeting
Equipment Testing

I also met a sports mechanics engineer who developed his own brand of poles. I was the first international athlete to test the DEFY AND LEAP poles, which I find very promising. This encounter made me realize what I wanted to do after my athletic career, so upon my return to Switzerland, I enrolled in an engineering program at a university.

I now live and train in Magglingen with the national pole vault coach. I proudly represent CA Sion, a club that shares values close to my heart. I look forward to the coming years, where I will be able to train in optimal conditions, thrive in my environment, and study a field that truly interests me.
